Myk Jayda.

The Gambia · Performing globally

Myk Jayda is a prominent Gambian hip-hop artist and rapper, widely recognized as "Gambia's Real Rap King." Raised in Bundung and Latrikunda Sabiji, he launched his professional career in 2010 and has built a loyal and steadily growing fanbase at home and among Gambians abroad through his lyrical versatility, commanding delivery, and punchlines.

In 2018 he won the Wah Sa Halat Music Award for Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, and in October 2026 he represented Gambian hip-hop on the international stage at Russia's prestigious KARDO International Competition — winning the Rap Pro category outright and sharing the Rap Freestyle title with Kenya's representative.

His breakthrough came in June 2016 with the launch of his 21-track mixtape Some Ran Some Stayed at the Alliance Française Centre in The Gambia. He has since performed at major venues including Jama Hall and Penchami Hall, and founded the Latville Music Festival — an annual neighbourhood event celebrating music, culture, and emerging talent.

His style spans hip-hop, lyrical rap, freestyle, Afrobeats, R&B, and contemporary drill — sharp wordplay, confident storytelling, and high-energy performances. Driven by ambition and a commitment to representing his country, Myk Jayda continues to push Gambian rap onto the international stage and inspire the next generation of Gambian artists.
